Who doesn’t love an update on an adopted horse?! Rainy Day, now called Buttercup, came to Bluebonnet in 2017 as part of a sizable neglect case. She was adopted and then returned last year because she was too much horse for her adopters – she had regressed to the point she wouldn’t let them catch her or handle her! She spent time with trainer Dawn Fraser and her assistant Hannah and then was adopted by Bluebonnet Board Member and previous adopter, Janet.

Janet says, “When I adopted Rainy Day, I had plans of riding her a couple of times a week. She’d spent time with a trainer and is a great pony with a big heart. However, when she arrived at our barn, she began having her heat cycles every 3 weeks and seemed to be a bit unsettled. She was in a pasture with 2 geldings and she was very much attached to 1 of them. Due to my own health issues, it was decided to give her time to settle in and let her know she was loved and would be a forever member of our family. Part of my health issues kept me completely out of the barn for over a month.

I’m blessed to have a husband with a big heart who stepped up to care for our horses. His bond with the horses grew every day. I didn’t realize just how much until the other day when he was cleaning the horse trough and Rainy Day (now known at the barn as Princess Buttercup) came up and gave him a hug. She just loved on him for a minute or so and then went back and joined the herd. Sometimes adoptions don’t go as planned, but that’s okay. I’m hoping to be back in the saddle in the next few weeks, and I know we will have years to enjoy our adventures together. Even better, I know our Buttercup feels safe and loved. As you wish…”
