Policy
Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society, Inc.’s (BEHS) policy on in-kind donations conforms to the organization’s role as a non-profit corporation under IRS code, section 501(c)(3).
Procedure
- Any in-kind donation of services shall be accounted for at that professional’s regular and ordinary rate schedule.
- Any in-kind donation (including equines) shall be receipted and acknowledged in the same method as cash donations, unless public anonymity is specifically requested by the donor.
- Unless specified by the donor, any donation, with the exception of equine donations, may be used or disposed of in a manner deemed appropriate by BEHS.
- Equine donations shall be placed in the BEHS foster home network under the appropriate BEHS equine policies.
- Appropriate donor records shall be maintained by BEHS with the understanding that such records will not be made public without the express, written permission of the donor.
- Any donor wishing to claim a tax-deductible donation must comply with IRS requirements for third-party appraisals.
