Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society (BEHS) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit organization that has opened its door in Arkansas in 2005. The organization helps horses, donkeys, mules, and ponies whose owners cannot care for them and works with law enforcement officers to investigate reports of abuse and neglect, remove horses from neglectful owners, and prepare court cases.

BEHS is volunteer-run and operates through a series of foster homes. Foster homes are kind individuals who open their hearts and farms to needy equines. Foster homes must become members of BEHS and complete a foster application. While some consider the process intimidating, Cat Ballew, a BEHS foster home, says this of fostering: “As far as what I love the most: it’s getting to help a horse in need. They teach me so much about forgiveness and trust.  I love watching them grow and improve emotionally and physically, and I love gentling a horse so that he learns to seek out people.”

The organization is currently seeking members, foster homes, volunteers, donors, and adoptive homes throughout Texas. Please help Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society preserve an American tradition: one equine at a time.
