Comet came to us in 2020 when her owner didn’t want her any longer. She is a cute mare and everyone wanted her to be a kids’ pony, but she spent time with several trainers who could not help her overcome her bucking problem – and her bucks were huge and dangerous.

Eventually, we discovered that Comet was ovulating four times each cycle and she HURT. Once she was on Regumate, she clearly felt better but her self-defensive bucking behavior had become so ingrained that we couldn’t adopt her as a riding horse.

Fortunately, Comet’s foster home at the time loves to drive and taught her to drive. Then she spent time with a Training Challenge participant who discovered that Comet loved liberty work.  Comet didn’t hate people or work – she was just scared of being hurt when being ridden.

A lot of folks want riding horses, though, so it took until January 2024 before we found Comet a family of her own. They’ve got her home and are refreshing her driving training. She’s getting along with their other horses, and her adopters says they believe Comet is just what they needed. I think they’re just what she needed, too.
