BEHS 1022 – Elvis

Elvis is 12 years old and may not have been off the property he was born on until he came to Bluebonnet. He's had a hard time adjusting to life in a new home and was very nervous at first.

Elvis has spent 3 1/2 months with a trainer preparing for the 2019 Fall Training Challenge. He has a great personality. He is a smart horse who will take advantage of a handler if he is allowed to though. He is a large horse who needs to be reminded to respect his handler's space. He can be reactive if someone moves too quickly around his head, especially when he is tied but other than that he is easy to handle. Occasionally, when he is unsure of something, he will get "stuck" and need a little extra reassurance that he needs to go with you though. He is easy to catch in the pasture and trailers well.

His trainer found Elvis is well broke to ride. However, she said he is not a fan of arena work. He will do it if you are stern with him. Where Elvis shines is out on the trail, where he is a completely different horse. He will go through water, open gates, walk over logs and is a steady mount. He will lead or follow. He has a calm, cool, relaxed walk in that environment.

He is Tennessee Walker or possibly a cross and is a high energy horse. He is gaited however he is not consistent about it. He trots at times and doesn't always collect well.

His trainer thinks he would make a great competitive trail horse. His ideal rider would be one with some experience with high energy horses.
