About Sunflower

Sunflower was placed with Bluebonnet because she was too green under saddle for her former owner. Sunflower is a dominant mare in a herd and will kick out at other horses if they pressure her.

Sunflower is sensitive to flies/gnats and they tend to cause an allergic reaction so keeping the population under control will help. If you are not able to control the flying insects, the trainer recommends an allergy shot from vet and fly sheet. She also does better with some sort of shoe or boot on rocky ground.

Evaluation and Training

Sunflower is green under saddle but her challenge trainer says she is doing well. Sunflower is being ridden in a snaffle currently but rides with a side-pull as well. She stands by a mounting block for any amount of time needed to mount. She leads well, loads great, but does show some signs of anxiety when first loaded at times, easy to clip, trim, halter, and bridle. She loves baths and you can even wash her face.

Sunflower has been ridden bareback, with bareback pad, English, Aussie, and western saddles. She has spent quite a bit of time just learning to relax and enjoy life. She will ride on any trail and not spook even if other horses are anxious. On trails, even beginners could ride her every time. She is amazing with kids on trail rides.

She is harmless in every way, but she is smart and knows that she can ignore the commands of beginners. So, if a beginner is riding her regularly it would be best if they had guidance from a trainer or a more experienced rider to prevent her from becoming buddy/barn sour.

Sunflower is the type of horse that can sit for days, then saddle her and ride off like you never missed a day. She is the same every time. She loves attention and is looking for her own family! Please consider adopting this beautiful girl!
