About Mr. Wrangler

Mr. Wrangler was placed with Bluebonnet by his owners when they lost interest in riding. He was adopted quickly but returned a year later (2022) through no fault of his.

In September 2022, he went to the vet because he was bucking under saddle. She diagnosed him with the beginning stages of kissing spines and gave him an injection. She said that he may need additional injections over time, but he also may not. Since he’s in the early stages of kissing spines, in her experience, often the single injection is all that’s needed.

Mr. Wrangler was returned in June of 2023 when he wasn't working out with the lesson program who adopted him.

Mr. Wrangler is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Trina Church. Mr. Wrangler will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 5, 2024, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center. You can follow their progress on their Facebook page CLICK HERE

The Expo and Training Challenge will be held on October 5, 2024, at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Texas. For more information about the Expo CLICK HERE, or for information about adopting a challenge horse CLICK HERE.

Evaluation and Training

Mr. Wrangler’s former owners rode him around their property and down the road. He was ridden by both children and adults at his previous home. He was then adopted as a family’s riding horse. After being returned, Mr. Wrangler went to a youth rider to prepare for the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. She’s ridden him in a round pen and arena at a walk, trot, and canter. She’s taken him on trail rides and over obstacles and hauled him to other arenas to ride. In September 2022, he began bucking under saddle and a veterinarian diagnosed him with kissing spines (see his About section).

He is an easygoing, willing guy. He comes to find his trainer or waits for her to walk up to him at the round bale. Haltering is no big deal to him. Mr. Wrangler is a champ standing tied, no issues so far at the trailer, tree, wash rack, etc. Grooming, picking feet, bathing, fly spray, clippers are all fine with him. Mr. Wrangler stands for saddling. grooming, and bathing. His trainer has taken him camping and he is a rock star. They played on some obstacles, explored camp in-hand, he got turned out with her Arab gelding in the arena, he was totally fine with being left, he did yell a little bit initially when we left him to go ride, but when we got back, he wasn't sweaty/pacing/calling out, just calm and eating his hay. This guy loves his mealtimes! He comes RUNNING. He can be a bit choosy about his dining buddies-some of my geldings can eat alongside him, others he prefers they give him space. He is definitely not the lowest, nor herd boss, but rather somewhere in the middle. He has been kept with geldings, mares and a mini. Mr. Wrangler does NOT like to be alone. His trainer is working on this with short sessions up by the house, leaving him in camp on trips, working him away from the herd, etc. He doesn't do anything stupid, just calls out.
