About James

James had a rough start to his life. He came to us at just five months old, and he was underweight. His dam was emaciated so we had to wean him right away. Fortunately, he quickly gained weight and blossomed.

After gaining weight, James was enrolled in the 2022 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge in hand division. He placed 5th in the Obstacle Course in Hand, in a very competitive class. He was adopted at the Expo but returned in December 2023 because his adopters did not have time for a young horse.

Evaluation and Training

James was not halter broke when he arrived at Bluebonnet. His foster home taught him to be caught, lead, and have his feet handled and trimmed. He then went to a non pro to prepare for the In Hand division of the 2022 Training Challenge. His Challenge partner taught him to lunge, work obstacles in hand, and carry a saddle. He’s still a youngster, and we don’t want him started under saddle until he’s 3 1/2 (or older) to give him time to mature. However, he’s a great age to adopt now and work on the ground and bond with. Then when he’s old enough you’ll have a great foundation to build on! He can be trained to do just about anything, and he’s a sweet guy who would love to be someone’s best friend and companion.
