About Mr. Bojangles

Mr. Bojangles was removed from negligent owners by law enforcement and placed with Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society. We do not know any of his history before he arrived at the rescue.

He does appear to have some arthritis which means he can’t do hard riding: no playday events, ranch work, endurance, or hard trail riding. He should be fine for pleasure riding and trail riding.

Evaluation and Training

Mr. Bojangles is a nice, well-mannered horse who is easy-going and quiet. He was evaluated under saddle by a trainer in March 2022, and she said he’s obviously been ridden in the past and is also quiet under saddle. Due to some arthritis, he can’t do hard work, but he should make someone a nice trail or pleasure horse.

Mr. Bojangles trainer said, “Mr. Bojangles knows "go" and "whoa" very well. He steers fairly well, especially considering he was in a halter and riding away from his buddies! He was a bit herd bound, but nothing I would consider out of the ordinary or concerning. He had no spook, buck, bolt, kick, etc. and listened very well. My guess would be that he has received some significant professional training at some point in his life. He is well acquainted with turning, stopping, backing, trotting, and riding over natural obstacles (branches out in the pasture)."

Mr. Bojangles has spent the summer with a youth rider, preparing for the Challenge. She’s worked with her trainer, and they’ve identified that Mr. Bojangles doesn’t like pressure on his sides while riding, so he will sometimes act out when she puts her leg on him. He can be ridden by experienced kids or an intermediate or above adult.

Mr. Bojangles is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Sadie Lyons. Mr. Bojangles will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 8, 2022, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center.

Mr. Bojangles completed the training challenge and was adopted that very day!
