About Flynn

Flynn was removed from negligent owners by the Houston Humane Society and then placed with Bluebonnet. He was a stallion when he first arrived at Bluebonnet but was gelded quickly and is adjusting well to life as a gelding. In his current home, he’s pastured by himself and has done well.

Flynn is competing in the Non-Pro Under Saddle Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Katie Kirk. Flynn will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 5, 2024, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center. You can follow their progress on their Facebook page CLICK HERE

The Expo and Training Challenge will be held on October 5, 2024, at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Texas. For more information about the Expo CLICK HERE, or for information about adopting a challenge horse CLICK HERE.

Evaluation and Training

Flynn’s foster home worked with him after he recovered from gelding and said he was a nice horse. She said he didn’t know much but was willing.

He’s spent four months with trainer Katrina Santiago preparing for the 2022 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. She’s started him under saddle and ridden him western. They walk, trot, and canter both in arenas and out in the open. She’s ridden him trails, ridden him over obstacles, hauled him to other arenas for experience, and taught him to lie down so a rider can mount. She’s been swinging a rope off of him, and that doesn’t bother him either. In fact, not much seems to bother this boy!

Flynn is competed in the Professional Division of the 2022 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge and was adopted that day. Unfortunately, through no fault of his own, Flynn was returned.

Flynn’s likes having a job. He will come up to his trainer in the pasture like he’s excited to “go to work”. Flynn’s personality can be described as goofy, expressive and dramatic.

Flynn is at his best when he’s riding out on a ranch. He’s good around cows, he can open gates, he is surefooted on rocks and isn’t buddy sour so you can leave or approach other groups of horses if you need to.

Flynn is coming along as a playday pony. He is good with all the noises and sights. He does well riding in the arena with other horses and can lope the barrel pattern pretty decent. He doesn’t like going fast so he will probably never have a super-fast time, but if you want to take him to a local show and just HAVE FUN, he’s your guy!

His 3 speeds are a really nice “rich walk”, a light bouncy trot and a slow lope. He is pretty easy going but sometimes the pony comes out in him, and he will want to go a direction other than what the rider wants but can easily be corrected. He has spooked in the past. His ideal rider would have enough balance to ride a few quick steps. He doesn’t spook on most rides these days, but it still happens from time to time. This guy would make someone a very special ranch horse or all-around horse.
