About Achilles

This gelding was donated to Bluebonnet when his owner could no longer care for him. Achilles’ former owner said he had foundered in the past. He’s ouchy on hard ground and has been wearing hoof boots this summer to help keep him sound.

Evaluation and Training

Achilles has spent the summer with a youth handler to prepare for the Training Challenge. He is leading well, loading in a trailer, and picks up his hooves well. He stands tied, too, and he’s learning to stand for fly spray. He’s still learning to be patient for the farrier, but he’s foundered in the past and his hooves might still hurt a bit when being trimmed.

Achilles’ young handler has worked with him on the ground and over obstacles in hand. Because of his past founder and size, he is not available as a riding pony. He would make a nice pet, companion, or in hand obstacle mini for someone.

Achilles is competing in the In-Hand Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Hannah Lyons. Achilles will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 8, 2022, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center.

Achilles completed the training challenge and was adopted that very day!
