About Mystify
Mystify was part of the 2023 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with a youth handler. Her handler had to withdraw, due to no fault of Mystify. You can see what her youth handler did with her on her Facebook page here CLICK HERE
Evaluation and Training
Mystify came to Bluebonnet when her elderly owner could not keep her. She had not been handled regularly for the past several years. She had never been started under saddle, either.
Mystify has learned to lead, have her hooves trimmed (she still needs a patient farrier), stand for bathing and fly spraying, and carry a western saddle and wear a snaffle bridle. She now lunges and has worked on some in hand obstacles as well. She’s been handled by a youth handler and did well. She seems to enjoy getting attention.
Not long after Mystify arrived at Bluebonnet, she spent some time with a trainer who had plans to start her under saddle. She noticed some lameness, though (May 2023) and her vet agreed she was lame. Because her hooves were overgrown and had not had regular trims in a while, he recommended regular trimming and time off. She spent June-August with a youth handler who noted no lameness.
Although Mystify is 18, she acts like a much younger mare. She’s been getting a foundation on the ground and is not too old to start under saddle.
