About Chili

Chili was removed from negligent owners and placed with another rescue. That rescue then transferred him to Bluebonnet.

Evaluation and Training

Chili is a stunning Arabian gelding who is a gorgeous mover. He hadn’t been handled a lot before coming to Bluebonnet. Although it took him some time to warm up to his foster home, he now loves attention. He’s good to catch now, leads well, and loads well. He was a stallion until late 2022, but he does not act “study” at all and is very low in the herd hierarchy.

His foster home has bridled him once with an O-ring snaffle and said it was clear that was a first for him, but he didn’t mind having a saddle pad throw over his back. She’s been working on helping him get comfortable with being touched all over his body and relaxing (instead of holding himself very stiffly). He’s also learning to pick up his feet. He is ok with the front feet but will jerk his hind legs away – her farrier feels he’s had rough handling before and is reacting out of fear.

Although he needs some work before he could start under saddle training, his foster home (who is a huge Arab fan) feels that he has potential to be a cute endurance horse or possibly sport horse once he is ready to start under saddle. Although he gets nervous with new things, he is the kind of horse who snorts, looks, and/or freezes – but not the kind of horse who spooks or jumps away.
