About Nimbus

Nimbus is a well-bred Arabian horse who was sold by his breeder because he was not going to make a national-level halter horse. He was then sold again to novice horse owners who fell in love with his pasture mate (and ended up buying both of them). They placed him with Bluebonnet because he was too much horse for them.

Nimbus is a friendly horse who is seeking to develop a deep and lasting relationship with one person. He’s friendly with most anyone who takes the time to visit him, but he really wants to connect with one person and spend a lot of time with them.

He has a great mind, loves to work, and is curious. He snorts sometimes, but he is not spooky and has a great mind.

Nimbus is competing in the Professional Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge with Makayla Wheeler. Nimbus will be available for adoption at the Training Challenge competition on October 5, 2024, during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson County Expo Center. The Expo and Training Challenge will be held on October 5, 2024, at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Texas. For more information about the Expo CLICK HERE, or for information about adopting a challenge horse CLICK HERE.

Evaluation and Training

Nimbus’ former owner had him trained to ride. The owners were more novice and said Nimbus wanted to go fast under saddle. His foster “mom” decided to spend some time on ground work and developing a relationship before hopping on him.

He's good to catch and lead. When he arrived, he was pretty pushy with his handlers but he’s much more respectful now. He stands for grooming and the farrier, and he's been hosed off a time or two. He moved around a bit but after a few minutes he stood still and seemed to enjoy the cool water.

He stands well for saddling and takes a snaffle bit. He lunges and he line drives/ground drives beautifully.

His foster home has only gotten to ride him once due to the weather and too many foster horses. She said when she first mounted, he acted like he wanted to take off – and he might have with a more novice rider. She thinks he’s been allowed to do that in the past. She made him stand and relax, and then they were able to walk around the round pen. He started out nervous but after a while he started to relax, bring his head down, and move nicely. He’s going to need a confident rider for a while to help him learn to relax under saddle. He’s a big moving horse with a gorgeous stride. His foster home has ridden and shown Arabian horses, and she believes he has potential as a nice sport horse or dressage horse for someone willing to continue bringing him along.
