Evaluation and Training

Although Risa had not been handled much in several years before being placed with Bluebonnet, she’s a friendly and curious mare who likes people. Sometimes she’s easy to catch and sometimes she takes a little work.

She was evaluated under saddle in April 2024. She stood still for saddling and accepted a hackamore well. She was nervous with mounting and started to bolt, but her trainer worked through it and she did ok after that. She settled down and was ridden at a walk and trot. Her trainer feels like she was likely started as a youngster and then put out to pasture.

Now that Risa is in the training challenge, she will be learning a lot. Risa is still learning how to steer with a snaffle but is quiet enough for a rope halter. She loves to hang out with you and be groomed!
