About Colada

Colada came to BEHS from a neglect case. Her owners surrendered her when they were investigated for neglect, and she was pregnant when she arrived. She gave birth to a beautiful foal, Montana Blue, a few months after arriving. After he was old enough to wean, Colada was adopted along with BEHS horse Navajo in 2009 by a wonderful family. She was returned in 2018 when her adopters could no longer keep her. In early 2019, she met someone who had applied to adopt and was waiting for just the right horse to come along. Colada grabbed her attention and she liked her when she met her! We wish the two of them the best of luck together!

Evaluation and Training

Colada was halter broke and started under saddle while with Bluebonnet. She spent nine years with adopters. They rode her some, but we don't know when they last rode her.

Colada is such a sweet mare, but she takes some time to settle in with new people. She took about two months to settle in at her new foster home and in the beginning she was hard to catch and very leery of being handled. She's now good to catch in a barn or small pen and can be caught with work in a larger area. She stands for the farrier and for grooming. Her foster home has also worked with her over obstacles in hand.

She has been ridden in the past, but we're not sure how long ago it was. She would do best as a companion horse, but she could also be ridden if an adopter wanted to put some time into restarting her/giving her a training refresher.
