About Akeem

Akeem came to Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society as part of a neglect case. He was adopted in 2009 but returned in 2013 because he wasn't getting along well with another horse in the herd. He attended the 2013 Bluebonnet Horse Expo where he met his adopter. Congrats to Akeem and his new family!

In March 2021 Akeem's adopter let us know that Akeem had crossed the rainbow bridge due to congestive heart failure with no warning. He had a comfortable life, and he and his adopter were best buds. They rode in the mountains, in competitive trail competitions and pretty much hung out together. Our condolences go out to Akeem's adoptive family!

Evaluation and Training

Akeem is a sweet, affectionate, and easy horse to handle. His former adopters did some dressage training with him and rode him on trail rides as well. He leads, loads, stands tied and cross-tied, and longes well. He prefers a hackamore to a snaffle bit. If ridden in a bit, he prefers being ridden without much contact. His former adopters spent a lot of time training him, and he has a wonderful stop, steers off of weight changes and leg cues, and has a wonderful, long, beautiful trot.
