About Sioux

Sioux was removed from negligent owners and placed with BEHS by the courts.

In December 2010, Sioux had surgery to repair damage likely caused by difficult foaling. She has healed fine but the injury has left her a bit incontinent. She has what the vet believes to be an abscess scar at an injection site on her neck and scars from ropes on the front of her hocks. Neither of these gives her any trouble.

She met her adopter at the 2011 Bluebonnet Horse Expo and went home with her about a month later.
Sioux returned to the rescue in 2021 due her adopter's life situation changing.

Evaluation and Training

People who knew Sioux before she was removed by law enforcement said she was a riding horse, and she was ridden a few times while in foster homes. In 2022, she went to a new home to prepare for the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. Sioux was reluctant to work under saddle, and a veterinary examination revealed pain in her neck and back. She was allowed six months off and then examined by another veterinarian who believes Sioux could go back to work.

Although she hasn’t been ridden in quite some time and was pretty green when she was ridden, she’s great to handle on the ground. She’s good to catch, lead, and load. She stands tied and is good for fly spray, the farrier, deworming, and baths.
Sioux has been working over trail obstacles in hand and is doing a great job. She could be a fun liberty horse or in hand trail horse or companion to a lonely horse. If an adopter wanted to bring her back into work and build her muscles, she could also be a light to moderate riding horse (no jumping, playdays, endurance).
Sioux showed in the In Hand Division of the 2022 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge where she placed 5th in the Basic Skills competition.
