About Cisco Kid
Cisco Kid was found wandering estray in Nueces County. He was then placed with BEHS by the county. He was adopted and then returned in December 2012. He spent time with a trainer and foster homes, being ridden and worked with. He met a family in September 2016 who fell in love and adopted him. Unfortunately in early 2021 his family had to return him to the rescue when they had to move into town and did not have a way to keep him.
Cisco Kid participated in the Non-Pro Under Saddle division of the 2021 Bluebonnet Rescue Spring Horse Training Challenge.
Evaluation and Training
Cisco Kid wasn't handled much before coming to BEHS, so he's leery of new people. He's also blind in one eye and can be a little spooky on that side. He went to a trainer for two months in the spring of 2013 who taught him ground manners and started him under saddle.
Cisco Kid went to training with Hilary LoBue in mid-October 2015. At the time he would stand to be saddled and bridled. They rode in the arena at a walk, trot, and canter and went out on a few trail rides. She said he did spook once, but it was a very mild jump and he went right back to work. Cisco Kid was then ridden by a novice rider at his foster home before his adoption.
When Cisco Kid was returned to the rescue in early 2021, his former home reported that she had never had any problems while riding him but that he hasn't been ridden in a couple of years. He went to a youth rider for the Training Challenge. They worked through some fear and reluctance issues on the ground and began riding again. While he was ridden western in the past, his current home has worked with him in a dressage saddle. They're riding in an arena and over obstacles, and he's doing a great job!
