About Sugar and Spice

The lovely Sugar & Spice is as sweet as her name - but she's it took her two years to find "her" family! She came to BEHS in 2012 as part of a large neglect case, and she and her pasturemates were in horrible shape when they arrived. She gained weight thanks to the attention of her long-term foster home and she quickly blossomed. Last year, she was evaluated by a trainer and her foster home began training her. This past weekend, she finally met her family and was adopted as a riding horse. Congrats to Sugar & Spice and her new family, and thank you to the Ruggles who have fostered her since she arrived at BEHS!

Evaluation and Training

Sugar's foster home says she longes well and is learning to disengage her hips and shoulders. She's also learning to flex and is easy to catch, lead, and load. She stands well for brushing, fly spray, and farrier work. Her foster home saddled her in December and she stood well. She carried the saddle in the round pen and behaved well. She was evaluated by trainer Mark Lyon on February 4, 2013. It appears Sugar & Spice is broke to ride and did great when ridden in the round pen, and her foster home has ridden her some (but not in a while due to her own busy schedule). She said Sugar is sweet and easy to ride, but she's still green and needs someone who can keep working with her.She is easy to catch, stands well for the farrier, and is good to be fly sprayed. She loves grooming and attention, and she's easy to load and to catch.
