About Red

Red was found estray. Animal control located his owners, but they did not want him back so animal control placed him with BEHS. Red attended the 2014 Bluebonnet Horse Expo and was adopted at the event. He was returned in 2019.

Red is a dominant gelding that thrives on attention. He can be pushy and mouthy so his adopter needs to be firm and not allow him to misbehave. He is excellent to handle if you establish boundaries for him. He is a quick learner. His foster home has taught him a few tricks. He can hug and kiss you!

Overall Red is in excellent health. He has a history of uveitis with his prior adopter but his foster home has not had any issues with it reoccurring. In the last year Red's foster home noticed he was developing arthritis. She had him on Adequan to help lubricate his joints and said it helped but there were still days where he appeared to be sore. Red was recently evaluated again by a vet who confirmed the probable arthritis and recommended keeping him on some form of pain medicine to keep him comfortable. For this reason Red is available as a companion only.

A special thanks to Chantal Spurgeon Photography for the wonderful photos of Red! Visit them at www.chantalseventphotography.com.

We are very sad to say Red was adopted but after a short time he had to be euthanized due to severe colic. Red spent the last last years of his life loved and happy with Bluebonnet adoptive and foster homes. Our hearts go out to all of Red's Bluebonnet family and friends!

Evaluation and Training

Red has been handled a great deal and was used as a riding horse in his younger years. Red's foster home worked with him on respecting her space, and on walking, stopping, and backing on the lead rope. Unfortunately Red's arthritis has progressed to the point he should no longer be ridden. He deserves to be allowed to enjoy the retired life as a pet and companion.
