About Boomer

Boomer was placed with Bluebonnet when his owner could no longer keep him. Boomer's registered name is Okies Licorice. Boomer competed in the Rescue Horse Training Challenge at the 2019 Bluebonnet Horse Expo and met his adopter at the event. Congratulations Boomer!

Evaluation and Training

Boomer had been started under saddle before coming to Bluebonnet but developed some behavioral problems before he got to us. He’s spent four months with a trainer to prepare for the Professional Division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge but was not able to show (due to his trainer’s schedule). He spent time with Ryan and Jennifer Skinner in late 2017. His current trainer has taken Boomer back down to the basics. They have worked extensively on desensitizing Boomer and on getting him to be light and responsive.Boomer is a big, powerful horse who needs regular work to keep himself mentally in the game. He's not the kind of horse you can put out in pasture, not ride for months, and then bring in and start riding. He's also not for a timid or novice rider as he will test and push timid riders around. He has bucked with riders in the past. For the right home, Boomer can be a fanastic horse. He's handsome, athletic, and powerful. He just needs the right person who can handle and work with him.
