When Jigsaw arrived, no one would have called her a joy.  They might have called her wild, naughty, or difficult.  Nicer folks would call her unhandled or scared.

She came to us after Hurricane Harvey. Her owner’s property had been hit with Harvey damage, and she couldn’t care for all of her horses and she asked us for help.

Jigsaw hadn’t been handled much, and she really didn’t seem to see the point in being around people.  She had little use for us – even though we thought she was the cutest thing we had seen in a while!

She spent her first fall in Bluebonnet with a family getting ready for the in hand division of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. They taught her to lead, carry a saddle, and perform some basic ground work tasks. She still wasn’t convinced humans were all that great.

The next year, she went to a nine year old girl for the Training Challenge’s in hand division.  Jigsaw and her handler spent hours together most days and slowly, her handler earned her trust. Jigsaw started to understand that people brought treats and good scratches.

Then this summer, Liz was looking for a pony to keep her horse company. She thought Jigsaw looked adorable and decided to give her a chance. She quickly fell in love with Jigsaw – Jigsaw has come a long ways thanks to her Bluebonnet foster homes!

Liz says, “Jigsaw is such a joy.  I’m so in love with her that I’m thinking of adopting another pony to keep her company.  Of course, then I guess I’d have to find another horse to keep Cruz company.  So many horses … so little time!”
