Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society Hosting Two Events in La Grange to Celebrate ASPCA Help A Horse Day April 23rd
Community support needed to give the rescue a chance to win up to $25,000 from the ASPCA to help save more horses
(La Grange, Texas: April 23, 2015) – Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society (BEHS) will be celebrating the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) national Help A Horse Day by holding an informational booth at the La Grange Tractor Supply 16th and 17th and a low-cost equine vaccination clinic at Fayette County Veterinary Clinic in La Grange, TX from 2-4pm on April 23.
By participating in the Help A Horse Day Celebration, BEHS, a rescue organization that has saved over 805 horses since it was founded 11 years ago, will be able to compete with rescues from across the country for up to $25,000 in prizes. Funds raised at the events and funds won as part of the competition will be used locally to help law enforcement agencies in Texas investigate reports of neglect or abuse, remove abused, neglected, and abandoned horses and other equines, and to provide food, medical care, and foster homes to rehabilitate those equines. None of the funds raised at Bluebonnet in Bloom events go to the ASPCA® or other organizations.
“This will be our first year competing in the Help a Horse event. I’m really excited that one of our volunteers, Glenda, has set up this booth at Tractor Supply and has partnered with Dr. Finch for the vaccination clinic. We can raise awareness about rescue work, raise funds to help additional horses, and help local horse owners get their horses vaccinated and save money. I hope community members will stop by the booth or the clinic to meet our wonderful volunteers and show their support.”
The clinic will offer horse owners eastern and western encephalitis, tetanus, West Nile, and rabies vaccines as well as Coggins tests.
BEHS will be holding additional events, called Bluebonnet in Bloom, throughout the month of April. Events include:
• Informational booths in Austin, College Station, Denton, Gainesville, Houston, La Grange, Navasota, New Braunfels, Temple, and Waco throughout April
• An online photo event featuring a photo competition and featuring individual rescue horse’s stories (April 23-24)
• Silent auction and horses to meet the public at the Navasota Tractor Supply (April 23)
• Benefit trail ride, silent auction, and Bluebonnet horses available to meet the public in Sisterdale (Boerne area) (April 23)
• Tack sale and Bluebonnet horses available to meet the public in Austin (April 24)
• 25% off of adoption fees for any horse adopted in the month of April.

When you attend a Bluebonnet in Bloom event, donate, or volunteer, you help horses like Mi Corazon. Mi Corazon and her herdmates were removed from a negligent owner and placed with BEHS by the courts. When Mi Corazon arrived, she was very underweight and had not received proper veterinary care in a long time. She was one of the lucky horses, though. One of her herdmates was so emaciated that he died. Not long after Mi Corazon arrived at BEHS, a veterinarian determined that she was also pregnant. Her foster home has made sure she’s gotten top-notch care and nutrition. When her foal is born, he will receive the best of care and handling: something his mom didn’t always know. Thanks to the BEHS volunteers and supporters, both Mi Corazon and her foal are safe and loved. They are shining examples of the great work BEHS can do with your support.
